Holiday Nails: Essie Leading Lady

If you’ve seen or read even a quarter of my tutorials and posts, you’ll know that I have a serious addiction to light pink nail polish.  However, this time of year, I love rocking a holiday-inspired manicure.  When I saw Essie’s Leading Lady, it looked like the epitome of Christmas nail polish.  A deep red polish flecked with bright, Christmas red glitter.  I couldn’t wait to get it on my nails!

However, Essie disappointed me with this one.  Their normally smooth, not-too-thick and not-too-thin formula was not present in this little red bottle.  The polish was gloopy and tough to apply evenly.  Two coats and close to twenty minutes later, I finally achieved a decent manicure.  Once it dried, the real nightmare began.  The glitter particles in the polish on the ends of my nails were super rough and prone to snag on EVERYTHING.  I ended up having to buff the ends of my nails, which of course lead to serious premature chipping.  Even after all of that, I still have bits of glitter that snag on clothes or sheets. No bueno. I don’t even want to think about how hard it’s going to be to get this off of my nails.

Don’t get me wrong, Essie is still a favorite of mine in the nail polish world and I hate to even give them a bad review, but I feel it’s my duty as a beauty blogger to accurately report my findings.  It’s such a pretty color and I wish it wore differently, but I didn’t want any of you to be duped by the gorgeous, glittery red that’s calling to you from the shelf.  But hey, maybe I got a bad bottle.  Do any of you own this polish and have had a better experience?  Let me know in the comments!!

I’m off to record your first Vice Palette tutorial, so look out for that in the next day or two.

What’s your favorite holiday nail color?? Is there a color that you think I need to add to my collection?

XOXO

I agree with you completely! I have about 25 Essie polishes and none of them are as bad as Leading Lady. I was shocked by how bad the formula is. And honestly, I expected the color to be prettier, too. It just looks kinda cheap in my opinion. If I’m going to wear a glittery red, I’ll keep reaching for China Glaze Ruby Pumps.

Oh, that’s really dissapointing. That’s also a nuissance with the chunks of glitter tagging on everything. I’m still on the hunt for a red glitter nail polish. Thanks for the review! Happy Holidays.

I’m sorry but really there is not even 1 nail polish from Essie that I can use. I am not even looking at Essie anymore.
