Maintenace Monday: Drugstore Dupes for My High End Faves

Never fear, Maintenance Monday is here!  I’ve recently inadvertently acquired dupes for some of my favorite high end products, and I’ve been so impressed by them that I wanted to create a video for you.  It can be disheartening watching all these Youtubers use tons of expensive, high end makeup in their tutorials when in reality, most women can’t or don’t want to spend that kind of money on beauty products.  In general, I am one of those women who prefers to shop at the drugstore because I can get more bang for my buck.  Plus I’ve been disappointed by high end products, and I think returning makeup is just weird (and I’m generally too lazy to return anything), and then all of that money is simply wasted.  Whomp whomp.  Today I’m here to show you some wallet-friendly options for my favorite high end products, and I think you’ll be surprised by just how similar they really are.  I know I was!

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation (Petal) – $36
VS.  L’Oreal True Match Foundation (W3) – $11LOreal True MatchWinner: L’Oreal True Match.  Why would I spend more than 3x as much money on a product that breaks me out and has far less color options?  Oh right, I wouldn’t.

Nars Blush (Orgasm) – $29 VS. ELF Blush Bronzer Duo (St Lucia) – $3
ELF Blush Bronzer Duo(Swatches from left to right: Elf Bronzer / Elf Blush / Nars Orgasm)
Winner: Elf Bronzer/Blush Duo.  The swatches can be deceiving because the Nars has so much overpowering gold shimmer, but if you can look past it, you’ll see the colors of the blush are extremely similar.  The Nars is great if I want a quick one-stop-shop for my cheeks, as it really acts as blush and highlighter, but I find myself reaching for it less and less, and instead opting to apply a separate highlighter that I can strategically place.  While I do still love the Nars, when it comes time to repurchase, I’ll save myself the $26 and buy the Elf.

Dior Shimmer Brick (Amber Diamond) – $45
VS. Physician Formula Shimmer Strip (Riviera Strip/Sand Bronzer) – $13
PF Shimmer Strip Bronzer(PF Shimmer Strip / Dior Amber Diamond)
Winner: PF Shimmer Strip Bronzer.  This is a tough one because the slightly paler, champagne color of the Dior is just stunning, but if you were to only use the 3 lightest strips of the PF version, I think you could achieve an extremely similar shade.  And although the dupe swatches darker, you only dust a small amount of product on your face, so I can’t tell much of a difference when all is said and done.  Again, I’m going to save myself the money when it comes time to repurchase.

Urban Decay Naked Palette & Urban Decay Naked2 Palette – $50 each
VS. Physicians Formula Nude Shimmer Strips Palette – $11
& Physicians Formula Matte Eye Quad (Classic Nude) – $7
PF Shimmer Strip Nude (1)(PF Champagne / UD Suspect / PF Pink Sand / UD Sidecar) PF Shimmer Strip Nude (2)(PF Dark Taupe / UD Hustle / PF Shimmery Black / UD Creep)
Winner: UD Naked Palettes.  However, I was pleasantly surprised by how well the PF shadows held up in texture and pigmentation when directly compared to the UD shadows.  They’re not quite as good, but if you can’t afford to shell out $50 or $100 on eye shadow, they would make an excellent substitute.  I think that the PF shadows only fall short when swatched right next to the UD versions, but when I’m using them to create looks, I find them nice and easy to work with.  The only reason I’m choosing my Naked palettes is because I love the huge range of colors that they offer.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eyeshadow Pencil (Sin) – $20
VS. Milani 12 Hr Eyeshadow Pencil (Champagne Toast) – $7
Milani Champagne Toast(Milani Champagne Toast / UD Sin)
Winner:  Can you tell the difference?  Right, neither can I.  I even think that the Milani version is more pigmented and has better staying power.  Double win.  Moving on.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner (Perversion) – $19
VS. Rimmel Scandaleyes Eyeliner (Black) – $5
Rimmel Scandaleyes Black(Rimmel Scandaleyes / UD Perversion)
Winner:  Again, besides my inability to draw two straight, parallel lines, I see no difference.  After my Smoked Series wiped out more than half of my Perversion, I stopped reaching for it and saved it only for special occasions.  The intense creaminess of this type of liner is a good thing when you’re applying it, but a bad thing when you realize how quickly it disappears.  Now that I’ve found a $5 dupe, I’ll be able to work it back in to my regular routine.

Eyeko London Skinny Liquid Eyeliner Pen (Black) – $15
VS. Physicians Formula 2-in-1 Lash Serum & Eyeliner (Black) – $11
PF Liquid Eyeliner Pen(PF Lash Serum & Liner Duo / Eyeko London Liner)
Winner: PF Lash Serum & Liner Duo.  Once they’re on my lids, there is literally no difference, so I’m basing my decision on application and price.  At first I wasn’t sure of the slightly wetter formula and thinner, more flexible tip of the PF liner, but now I’ve realized that I use this one far more (like every day).  The thicker tip of the Eyeko liner is a little harder to maneuver when drawing delicate wings, so when I’m out of them both I’ll repurchase the dupe.

On me:
You Play I Pray Tank
Flower Cosmetics Nail Polish (I Lavendare You)

I agree!! Why waste money on high end makeup when u can get it for far less n save that money for even more makeup in the secret wish list we makeup addicts have (irony) anyways most of those YouTube girls get stuff in return for promoting n such or use high end to show off when half the time the product is the exact same Wooo out of topic, so yes as i was saying find dupes becus in the real world out in the streets, restaurants, work, n appointments, ppl compliment the overall look of the makeup or the color of lipstick or shadow.

  2. I just tried a sample of the Benefit Hello Flawless and fell in love – but didn’t want to spend close to $40 on a bottle! Totally going to try the L’Oreal True Match before I commit to spending the money on the Benefit one! 🙂 xx
