Happy Wednesday y’all!  Today’s write up is about a book that I literally flew through this weekend, Inferno by Dan Brown.  Brown is the well renowned author of The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, and The Lost Symbol.  I have read and loved every single one of these books, so when I stumbled upon his latest work in Sam’s Club I just had to pick it up.  I started it Saturday morning, and then it was “Goodbye, world!” until I finished on Sunday.  Okay, not really but I wish.  I did come up for air to visit with my sister and brother in law on Saturday night and for church on Sunday, but then my nose was right back in this book until I finished that afternoon.  I liked it so much that I ignored the corneal abrasion that I somehow got after church and finished it anyway.  In low lighting.  With an eye patch.  Just kidding, I opted for sunglasses instead, but I know you’re all picturing me in an eye patch anyway.

If you’ve read any of the aforementioned novels by Dan Brown, you won’t be surprised that it only takes Robert Langdon all of two sentences to find himself in some dangerous situation.  While in some ways this book is just like the others, Brown still managed to capture and keep my attention from page one of the preface.  The preface, people!  There is no boring reintroduction of the beloved Harvard professor, and the action just never stops.  Even when you think that you’ve got it all figured out, Brown pulls out a plot twist that will literally have you flipping back through the chapters to see if your eyes somehow deceived you.  They didn’t.  He’s just that good.

As you probably inferred from the title, Brown based this adventure-packed novel on Dante’s Inferno–part one of his epic poem The Divine Comedy.  Langdon once again finds himself on a wild goose chase and entirely dependent on his vast knowledge of historical, religious, and literary symbology.  Only this time, the fate of the world as we know it hangs on his ability to decipher art and obscure historical references.  In a race to stop a brilliant opponent who has poured everything into the research and development of a dangerous scientific paradigm, Langdon teams up with the beautiful and clever Sienna Brooks to avoid trouble long enough to uncover the plot that threatens to completely alter the course of our planet.  In my opinion, this novel blows the others out of the water and keeps you thinking long after you’ve finished the epilogue.  Inferno is a must-read, and I can’t wait to see what Brown has in store for Robert Langdon next.
